The senior of all systems, multiple layered asphalt systems have moved away from the utilization of coal tar pitch or hot asphalt. The new membrane systems are safer to apply, utilizing cold process adhesives, and offer the most durability of all low slope systems.
Advances in technology have made single ply systems, including EPDM, PVC, TPO and other thermoplastic membranes, very appealing options for many building owners. Systems may be fully adhered to the insulation with adhesive or mechanically fastened and ballasted, offering excellent wind resistance and value to the customer.
Extreme durability and low maintenance make metal roofing systems an appealing option. Steel, aluminum, copper and zinc are used both for entire roof coverings, as well as providing additional points of support in other systems. Recent advances in coating products can increase the longevity of older metal roofs.
Due to their durability and attractiveness, slate and tile have always been popular choices for roofing materials. Improvements in the roofing industry have led to the development of similar products that are much lighter than slate but produce the same traditional look.
