How to Choose the Best Roof Cleaning Services: 1) The first question that smart property owners ask a roof cleaning service is, “do you have Workers Compensation Insurance.”
Regardless of a roof cleaner’s experience or reviews, a roof cleaner can be seriously injured or killed performing roof cleaning services.
America’s Most Dangerous Jobs lists a Roofer in its Top Ten Most Dangerous Jobs. Since most homeowners have neglected their roofs, a roof cleaner could be the most dangerous job, especially when adding water and chemicals to algae, mold, moss, and lichen-infested roofs.Verify that the company that performs work on your property has Workers Compensation Insurance. Workers Compensation Insurance protects the workers, the property owner(s), and the company.

2) The second question knowledgeable property owners ask a roof cleaning service is, in addition to Workers Compensation Insurance, “do you have General Liability Insurance.”
NOTE: Before any work begins on the Federal Government, State Governments, City Governments, and Commercial Companies’ properties, they require a company to be licensed by the State. Also, a company must have Workers Compensation Insurance, General Liability Insurance, Employers Liability Insurance, and Commercial Insurance. Therefore, like government agencies and businesses, homeowners are not immune from lawsuits. In addition, homeowners’ insurance does not cover all contractor’s accidents or mistakes. So before the roof cleaning service begins, verify that the contractor has general liability and workers compensation insurance.

3) The third question awake property owners ask a roof cleaning service is, “are you fully licensed by the State.”

A City Business License is not a State Contractor’s License. In addition, Home Advisor, Angie, and Google Review Stars are not State contractors’ licenses. Anyone, including criminals, can purchase a City Business License, Google, Home Advisor, and Angie Stars. A State Contractor’s License requires passing a test and criminal history.
Roof cleaning services that do not have a State License and do not have Workers Compensation Insurance coverage have much lower operating costs than their adequately licensed and insured counterparts. Lower operating costs allow roof cleaning services to submit lower bids than their competitors’ quotes. If a roof cleaner’s offer is low,

it is a red flag that they might not have a state license or insurance. Hiring an unlicensed and underinsured roof cleaning contractor to save a few dollars may seem like a good idea to a naïve person, but the potential risks outweigh the benefits.

4) The fourth question that informed property owners ask a roof cleaning service is, “does your roof cleaning service require water pressure or chemical pressure to remove algae, mold, moss, and lichen infestation from my roof.”

WARNING: Although search engines categorize roof cleaning with pressure washing services, DO NOT PRESSURE WASH ROOF SHINGLES.
Roof algae, mold, moss, and lichen can decrease a roof’s life. Also, incorrectly cleaning a roof can decrease the lifespan of roof shingles.  Unfortunately, most property owners call concerning their roof algae, mold, moss, and lichen problems long after the infestation has heavily infested most of their roofs. At this stage of growth, if the roof infestation is removed or cleaned incorrectly, the process can rapidly decrease the remaining life of the roof shingles.
Roof pressure washing services use terms such as “gentle as rain,” “shingle safe,” “approved for roof shingles,” “soft washing,” and “low-pressure” to describe their roof cleaning methods. These roof cleaning methods merely consist of lowering and raising pressure to wash or remove visible stains from the roof. The rooted growth of algae, mold, moss, and lichen is between the roof shingle granules. Extracting the visible stains with pressure can rip or pull up the rooted algae, mold, moss, lichen, and shingle granules. Pressure washing has its place; however, it is not on a roof.
The best roof cleaning treatments for asphalt and PVC membrane roofs are 100% Zero Pressure Roof Cleaning Chemical (NO household bleach or soap) Treatments. Today’s FRAGILE exterior building materials such as roof shingles, PVC roof membrane, vinyl, Dryvit, stucco, and EIFS require Zero Pressure Cleaning to preserve their longevity.

5) The fifth question awake property owners ask a roof cleaning service is, “how long have you been in the roof cleaning business (not the franchise you purchased).” A roof cleaning service that has been in business for a while (5 years or more) means that there is a significant chance that if they offer a re-treatment warranty, they are more likely to be in business to honor it rather than a “fly-by-night” roof cleaner.
A few signs of a “fly-by-night” roof cleaner are no state license, no workers compensation insurance, no BBB accreditation, one-price fits all online quotes, bait and switch prices, bait and switch ads, “I can beat anybody’s price,” “we do what they do, we are just cheaper.”

6) The sixth question cautious property owners ask a roof cleaning service is, “does your roof cleaning service require you to walk on my roof.” Unfortunately, since most property owners have neglected their roofs, attempting to walk on property owners’ algae, mold, moss, and lichen-infested roofs can be highly hazardous and costly.

7) The seventh question environmental concern property owners ask a roof cleaning service is, “do you capture and contain the roof cleaning waste to protect the storm drains and the environment.” No matter which product or products a roof cleaning company uses, the roof cleaning runoff (waste) should be captured, contained, and removed from the property during the cleaning process.

“As a new customer, I had expectations of what results I would get after a RoofGlo treatment. Never could I have imagined how incredible it would turn out.
First, I have been in business for over forty years and have dealt with all types of service people and contractors. RoofGlo surpassed my expectations with their professionalism, reliability and thoroughness. But all of this pales when you look at the result of the job they did. It is nothing short of miraculous how spectacular the final product was. I can without hesitation recommend RoofGlo for your restoration project and would even go as far as saying you would be making a big mistake if you proceed with your project before you completely see what RoofGlo can offer you.” – Dr. Frank Franasiak, Chesapeake, Virginia

”After doing tons of research on roof cleaning, I decided RoofGlo was the right choice for me. The office was very professional on the phone. The inspector was extremely helpful. He provided me proof of state license and workers compensation insurance. He explained the roof cleaning process from start to finish and he also made several roof maintenance recommendations. My roof looked horrible before the service team started. They were patient and did not rush the treatment application process. They collected all of the roof cleaning runoff. They also cleaned my soffit trim which was not included in the service agreement. My roof and soffit trim looks brand new. The results in increased curb appeal and property value far exceed the cost of this service.
This is an amazing company with absolute top-notch customer service. If I could give RoofGlo a 10 star review I would do so.” – N. Holly, Virginia

“My husband and I have been homeowners for over 30 years, and we rarely have had a contractor with as much attention to detail as Vance with RoofGlo. We hired Vance to rid our roof of the long streaks of black algae, lichen and moss. We thought we needed the exterior soffit repainted as well because it looked dingy and dirty. Not only did Vance make our roof look new again, he cleaned our soffit and saved us the $7,000 quote we received from the painter. Vance informed us that the condition of our roof caused the algae growth on the soffit. Clearly, we did not need the soffit repainted and it all looks beautiful. Vance inspected the roof himself, finding a 1-2ft pine seedling growing in a roof crevice! He also cut back large tree branches that extended over the roof. He educated us that if we cleaned our roof on a regular basis, we could prevent early shingle replacement because of damage due to the algae. With Vance’s background knowledge in Botany, his understanding of chemicals allows him to balance the products to kill the algae yet not harm the building product he is cleaning as well as the shrubbery and surrounding grass. Not only did Vance protect our plants and backyard from the chemicals using… to catch the overflow, he protected the grass from any runoff. Additionally, Vance cleaned our wood deck, vinyl clad deck railing, and our expansive paver stone driveway. His workers were very professional, his trucks were very clean, and his prices extremely reasonable. He was always extremely courteous and cognizant of our needs. I would not hesitate to contact Vance again for any exterior cleaning of our home, deck, outdoor furniture, walkways, or pavers. His before and after photos make your home look new again!” – Dr. and Mrs. Neatrour, Virginia Beach VA

I didn’t want to pressure wash my roof so I researched and found RoofGlo. Really glad I did. Vance explained the roof cleaning process to me. First they treat the roof to remove algae, then they apply a growth inhibitor to prevent the algae from returning. They control the multiple applications very well and don’t leave any chemical residues anywhere. I have gutters and downspouts so they used my gutter system to collect all runoff. It went into a tank in their truck to be taken away for recycling. My roof looks amazing. All the streaky stains are gone. There is a new home under construction next door to me, so I was able to directly compare a newly installed roof and my 14 year-old one. My roof really looks brand new! Vance and his team are going to be busy because I am going to recommend their services to everyone here in my community. Oh and one more comment. The office staff and coordination was great. Scheduled when I wanted, showed up on time, reminder phone calls all perfect. Rare these days.” – Dave Volonino, Virginia
